The Lighter Side of the Kitchen

The great debate in real estate often comes down to the “can I live with it?” question. Buyers look at a home that may not be set out the way they’d dreamed, but they can envision “living with it” for the time being – at least, until they can afford to change it. This is the way this North Vancouver family has approached their home, a beautiful space enveloped by trees and with enough room to fit them comfortably for a few years. Working through one space at a time, the family has slowly been approaching their ideal, but still needed more from the main floor. Now they sought to create the entertaining space they’d always desired, calling in CCI Renovations to add a modern touch to their kitchen, great room and partial dining room. Carried out over five months, the work didn’t change the square footage, but did reinterpret the space to create more room, as well as
developing an entirely new look for the space. Already a favourite on the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association’s Parade of Renovated Homes, CCI plans to enter the project into the Georgie Awards later this year.

Plumbing for a basement sink
We are planning to renovate our basement bathroom. The existing plumbing pipe for the sink comes up from the floor and it seems that a full vanity is required just to hide this black pipe. The contractor has advised that there is nothing that can be done to change that, and that a pedestal sink or a vanity that is open at the base are not options. There isn't really enough room for a vanity - one of the cupboard doors on the previous vanity wouldn't open fully because the toilet is too close. We presume that the plumbing could be changed, but is the contractor really saying that it would be very costly to do so? Read the answer »
